Head Coach/Co-Offensive Coordinator – Rich Smythe
This is Coach Smythe’s first year serving as Co-owner/ Head Coach of the River City Raiderz. Last year Coach Smythe was the Head Coach of the Portland Fighting Fillies of the Women’s Football Alliance. He will be beginning his 29th season coaching overall. He will also serve as the team’s RB and linebacker coach. Coach Smythe has been a head coach at every level of football from youth through high school. He has coached in several programs in Oregon including Glencoe High School, Forest Grove High School, and Neah-Kah-Nie High School on the Oregon Coast. Most recently he took time off from high school coaching to coach his nephew in the Aloha Youth program for 2 years. Besides his duties with the Raiderz, Coach Smythe is currently the running backs coach at 6A Hillsboro High School. Coach Smythe is a 2006 graduate of Pacific Lutheran University in Tacoma Washington where he earned his Bachelors of Education in History/Social Studies and did a Minor in Coaching under the legendary College Hall of Fame Coach Frosty Westering. Coach Smythe currently resides in Hillsboro where he works as a Substitute Teacher in the Forest Grove School District and a security officer at Intel Corporation.

Assistant Head Coach/defensive co-coordinator/Offensive Line Coach – Mike Smythe
This is coach “Little Smythe’s” first season as Co-owner of the Raiderz and fourth season back coaching after honing his coaching style at Hillsboro where he was a 1983 graduate and Metro league selection at both offensive and defensive line, leading his team in tackles his senior year. He went on to play college football at Oregon Institute of Technology in Klamath Falls, Oregon, where he was an Offensive lineman and standout player on Special teams. Last year Coach Smythe was the Defensive Coordinator and Offensive Line Coach for the Portland Fighting Fillies of the Womens Football Alliance. Coach Smythe has worked in the construction and remodeling industry for the last 25 years and currently resides in Beaverton with his wife Becky, son Isaac, and Daughter Sydney. He also has 2 older Children, a daughter Danielle and a son Mikkel who is currently attending Linfield College and is a running back on the football team.

QB Coach/Co-Offensive Coordinator-Mike Maraia
Coach Maraia is entering his 27th season coaching football. Coach Maraia will be coaching WR’s and DB’s for the Raiderz. A longtime coach in the Forest Grove football program, Coach Maraia has also been a high school head coach at Gaston and the Running backs coach at Lewis and Clark College. Coach Maraia has also coached several other sports teams including women’s basketball and track. Coach Maraia is currently coaching football in the Forest Grove School district where he also teaches math and PE. Coach Maraia lives with his wife Michelle and dog Lucy in Aloha, Oregon.
Defensive Consultant- Coach Dennis Woodward
Coach Woodward is in his seventh season coaching high school football and is currently the Defensive Coordinator at 2A Neah-Kah-Nie. Coach Woodward also spent two seasons in Tillamook serving as the offensive and defensive line coach for legendary high school football coach Dave Ackerman’s Fighting Cheesemakers. Coach Woodward is in the finish business working in high end beach homes along the Oregon Coast. Coach Woodward currently resides in Nehalem, Oregon with his wife Teresa.
Co-Defensive Coordinator/WR/OLB coach – Dam Shuff
This will be Coach Shuff’s first defensive coordinating experience and his fourth season coaching football. Coach Shuff will coach the outside linebackers and wide receivers. Before coaching with the River City Raiders, Coach Shuff most recently coached the defensive backs at Hillsboro High school and served as the Junior Varsity defensive coordinator. Before returning to coach at Hillsboro High School, where Coach Shuff was a 2004 graduate and former All Metro selection on both offense and defense, as well as a co-captain for the Spartans, he coached at Dordt College in northwest Iowa for 2 seasons as the defensive line coach, defensive backs coach, and junior varsity defensive coordinator. After graduating from Hillsboro High school, Coach Shuff went on to play college football at Southern Nazarene University in Bethany, Oklahoma where he played both wide receiver and safety. Coach Shuff graduated from SNU with a Sport and Leisure degree before moving on to Dordt College, where he finished his undergrad in Physical Education and Health. Coach Shuff is currently living in Hillsboro and is an Instructional Assistant in the Beaverton School District.
RB Coach -Eddie Kalamau Jr
Coach K hails from the great Aloha State where he was an All-League Football Player at Powerhouse Damien High School. Coach has been playing football since the early age of 9 years old and loves what football can do for the mental and physical development of athletes. Coach Kalamau has spent the last 2 season in the Hillsboro football program as a defensive coordinator for the 8th grade varsity playing a vital role in the team making it to 2 straight championship games. Coach Kalamau’s passion, enthusiasm, and knowledge of the game will make an excellent addition to our River City Raiderz Coaching Staff and team. Coach lives at home in Hillsboro with his wife Leola, and children Alexxus, Eddie III, Shaddie, and Kiela.
Beth Buglione-Director of Player Personnel/Assistant offensive and Defensive line Coach
Many women’s football fans will recognize Buglione from her involvement with the IWFL’s Corvallis Pride; having started out as their owner, general manager and starting quarterback from their 2002 inception until 2004, she led the Pride to a 19-6-1 record in their first three seasons, coming one game shy of the IWFL National Championship game in ’02 and ’04. The following season, Buglione hung up her cleats to become the Pride’s head coach for their last five seasons, picking up a 22-22 record in her coaching tenure while helping the Pride survive in their small college-town market In addition to her service with the Pride, Buglione served as the quarterbacks and running backs coach for the Philomath Warriors high school football team in 2005 and 2006, while serving as the Albany Memorial Middle School Pop Warner football team’s assistant coach in 2007 and 2008. Knowing what it takes to succeed with the odds against her, Buglione feels the time is right for her to make her return to the women’s football game assisting the Raiderz.
“I can’t wait to be back in the women’s football arena and build on the success we enjoyed during the 8 year run of the Corvallis Pride,” Buglione said excitedly. “The Raiderz are fully staffed, fully geared and ready to rock the WSFL!”
